Improv Classes
Mary (she/her) believes that we can all benefit from adding humor to our lives. She took her first improv class 10 years ago, seeking stress relief from her work. Mary has performed with teams in Portland, OR, London, UK, Pittsburgh, PA, and now in Seattle with Bandit Theater and with CSz Seattle on their Pro Team. She has appeared at comedy festivals in Richmond, VA, Edinburgh, UK, and Pittsburgh, PA. Mary has taught improv at Kickstand Comedy and Bandit Theater, and she has been a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama and Point Park University Conservatory of Performing Arts. She has coached teams and is currently directing The Couple’s Quiz with Bandit. She is a Certified Humor Professional (C.H.P.) through the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH). Mary looks forward to having you in her class!

“I learned a lot from Mary! Her coaching style really meshed well with the way I understand and approach improvisation. Immediate adjustments to scenes helped us overcome some of the typical hurdles of early improv work and focus on the skills that mattered. In the past, I found I was unable to access higher levels of technique because there wasn’t enough structure or coaching in the moment. In Mary’s class, this was avoided with careful guidance and an emphasis on technique. By breaking down the larger concepts of improv into smaller exercises and providing space for repetition and questions, I was able to identify areas where I was struggling and received direct help addressing those issues.
